Hello
Just had my pre placement meeting with my tutor and staff at the place ill be working for the next 3 months. Ill be working at a residential housing unit for people with learning disabilities (mentally handicapped). They house about 20 people of varying symptoms and each person either shares or has their own flat. I got a chance to go around to a few of their flats and meet the residents, some were very happy and seemed fully functional while others really had severe disabilities. Was definitely and eye opener, but the staff seem cool and the setting is very nice. For the first couple weeks ill just be shadowing staff till im ready to start working on my own. Ill be doing alot of note taking, admin stuff and assist in meetings, take residents out for the day to post office, shops etc. Also will help them do tasks they need help with, like washing dishes, getting dressed, and unfortunately showering, must say im not looking forward to cleaning an old mans balls, but guess its an initiation into this social work jazz, so while you sitting at home eating your dinner, just remember...wazzy boy might be washing someones crusty balls :) . Jokes aside Im stoked I got this placement as its a field im very interested in.
I start my placement next tuesday and it ends on the 17th of December, then im back to Uni on 25th Jan. really wanted to hit SA and seems like i have time but looks like tickets are all over 1000 pound, yikes!
Ill also be working some weekends as a relief worker at where i did my last placement as my police check finally came through so i can legally work there. plus with my resident assistant duties at the
student halls ill be a busy boy.
