Well Ive been here for 2 weeks now so thought will give a brief update. After my gruelling flight and a 15hr stopover in Dubai I finally arrived in Durban and was picked up from the airport by dad, as requested cold beers were at hand and Helen cooked up a great Biryani.... I was home woohoo.
I was dying to get in the water, surf has been amazing which is the opposite of my fitness. Though I am improving, getting washed up on the sand in a convulsing ball of fatigue is becoming less of an occurence. all in all though have had some great surfs so far. Sardine run is on at the moment though and its very sharky, lots of shark sightings and over the weekend a 3 metre one swam through new pier. Also been skateboarding with Dazza and co. The Durban football stadium is perfect for skating.
Just got my placement offer today, so when I arrive back in the UK ill be working for an anti discrimination organisation for 4 months.
Wildlife has been rampant here, theres the usual whales, monkeys and dolphins, but i have seen a few turtles and today I saw a pigmi deer on the path down to the beach. Apparently they are hard to spot though I managed to almost pee on one. I was dying for a pee while walking down so started doing my business in a bush and tadaaaa a pigmie deer pops out and runs away looking slightly traumatised.
today was Mandela day as its the big guys 93rd birthday, you supposed to do something for 67 minutes to make SA better . so I decided to pick up litter on the beach. about 98% of the stuff was plastic and the rest was polystyrene. The majority of the plastic was broken down into tiny pieces and I spent 5 minutes just picking up earbuds and lolipop sticks to see how many i could get....so think twice about throwing these down the toilet dudes and dudettes.
Been great hanging with family and friends and im already dreading leaving home.
